◾️ Ministry of Information and Broadcasting transfers order of four film media units to NFDC
✓ Production of documentaries and short films, planning of film festivals, and maintenance of films have been transferred to NFDC.
The order of four film media units (Film Division, Directorate of Film Festivals, National Film Archives of India, and Children’s Film Society, India) has been transferred to NFDC.
The decision to merge these four film media units was taken by the Union Cabinet in December 2020.
✓ The documentary was being produced and film festivals were being organized by the Films Division and the Directorate of Film Festivals, respectively.
◾️ The Matlab Software Suite was launched on the Indian Science Technology and Engineering Facility Map (i-STEM) portal
✓ For the first time in the country, academic researchers from India can access the Matlab software group without any charges through the I-STEM portal.
✓ Matlab Software Group is placed on i-STEM’s cloud servers to provide user access from anywhere in India.
✓ The i-STEM portal lists over 25,000 devices from 1750 institutions across India.
✓ Matlab has been developed by Mathworks. It is a numerical computing and programming language platform.
✓ It is an initiative of the office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India under the aegis of PM-STIAC.
✓ The I-STEM portal was launched by PM Modi in January 2020 during the 2020 Indian Science Congress.
◾️ Scientists detect microplastic contamination in human blood for the first time
✓ For the first time, small particles of microplastics have been found in human blood.
✓ Scientists in the Netherlands have found microplastic in about 80% of the total tested people.
✓ Microplastics can damage human cells in the laboratory, but their effects on the human body are not yet known.
✓ Blood samples of 22 people were analyzed. Plastic was used for making bottles in half of the samples and polystyrene particles were found in a third of the samples.
◾️ The new wage rates for the financial year 2022-23 have been notified by the Central Government under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
➜ Of the 34 UTs and States, 21 have increased by less than 5%.
✓ No increase has been made in Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura.
✓ This change in wage rates has been notified by the Ministry of Rural Development.
✓ These revised rates have been notified under sub-section (1) of The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, Section 6.
