◾ Government decided to reduce the disturbed areas under AFSPA in Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur
The Centre has decided to completely remove AFSPA from 23 districts of Assam and partially 1 district with effect from April 01, 2022.
➜ It has been decided to exclude 6 districts of Manipur from the notification of the affected area with effect from 01st April 2022.
➜ It has decided to withdraw the notification of disturbed areas from 15 police stations in 7 districts of Nagaland with effect from 01 April 2022.
✓ Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has welcomed the Centre’s decision to partially withdraw AFSPA from 3 states in the north-eastern state.
◾ Bilateral trade between India and China increased by 43.41 percent in the last fiscal
The bilateral trade between India and China has reached US$125.62 billion.
✓ India’s exports to China grew by 34.28% to US$28.03 billion.
India’s imports from China increased by 46.14% to US$97.59 billion. The trade deficit between India and China increased by 51.53%.
In 2021, India was China’s 14th largest trading partner. India mainly exports iron ore, diamonds, aluminium and refined copper cathodes to China.
✓ India is the fifth largest exporter of iron ore to China. India’s iron ore exports have increased by 18.84%.
◾ The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Orders (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed in the Rajya Sabha
✓ The Bill provides for the removal of the affected caste from the list of Scheduled Castes (SC) of Jharkhand.
✓ In this Bill, the affected community will be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Jharkhand.
✓ It will amend the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950.
This will include nine communities in the Scheduled Tribes list of Jharkhand.
The names of these communities are Deshwari, Ganzu, Dautalbandi (Dualbandi), Patbandi, Raut, Majithia, Khairi (Kheri), Tamaria (Tamadiya) and Purana.

✓ Red Bull driver Max Verstappen defeated Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari to win the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. This is the 21st win of his career.
• Monaco’s Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was second and Spain’s Ferrari driver Carlos Sanz Jr. was third.
✓ Seven-time Formula One winner Lewis Hamilton is in 10th place.
◾ Indian and French navies “Varuna” bilateral naval exercise in the Arabian Sea
✓ The 20th edition of ‘Varuna’, a bilateral naval exercise between the Indian and French Navies, is being held in the Arabian Sea from March 30 to April 3.
Ships, submarines, maritime patrol aircraft, fighter aircraft, and helicopters from both sides are participating in the exercise.
✓ These units will work to improve and fulfill their maritime theatre operation skills as well as enhance interoperability to carry out maritime security operations.
✓ In 1993, the two navies began bilateral naval exercises.
◾ India and Sri Lanka sign agreement to set up hybrid power plants
✓ India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Sri Lankan counterpart GL Pieris signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the hybrid power project in Jaffna.
✓ This hybrid power plant will be set up in Nainativu, Delft or Neduthivevu, and the Analityvu islands.
The three islands are located close to Tamil Nadu and the project was earlier handed over to the Chinese company Sinoser-Afrin.
➜ India expressed concern over its replacement, which led to the Chinese company suspending the project to set up a hybrid power plant.
◾ The second P-8I aircraft squadron of the Navy has been commissioned by the Indian Navy at a ceremony held at INS Hansa, Goa.
➜ The commissioning of INAS 316 marks another milestone toward the Navy’s commitment to promoting maritime surveillance and security in the Indian Ocean Region.
The Boeing P-8I aircraft will be operated by inas.
✓ The aircraft can be equipped with a variety of torpedoes as well as air-to-ship missiles, which will play an important role in electronic war missions, search and rescue, and maritime surveillance.
✓ It will also provide data targeted to weapon platforms. This aircraft will also provide surveillance information and help in locating and destroying enemy submarines and ships.

✓ Odisha is named after the Odra tribe living in Madhya Pradesh. The 113th Amendment Bill of 2011 changed the name of Orissa to Odisha.
◾ Maharashtra government launches scheme to provide personal loans to prisoners
✓ The Government of Maharashtra will provide personal loans to the prisoners to improve the standard of living of their families.
✓ Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank will provide loans up to Rs 50,000 at an interest rate of 7%.
The scheme will be implemented on a trial basis in Yerawada Central Jail.
This is a unique loan scheme based on the income earned while working in a jail. About 1055 prisoners will get the benefit of this scheme.
✓ The loan amount will be determined based on punishment length, age, estimated annual working day, and minimum daily income.
